Alliance-Artists & Recording

733 10th St NW Fl 10
Washington, DC 20001

Alliance-Artists & Recording (AARC) was established in 1993 as a small organization spun off from the Recording Industry Association of America, tasked with administering music royalties under the United States Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. Over its 28 years of operation, AARC compensated artists, writers, publishers, and sound recording copyright owners for losses incurred due to home private copying, primarily funded by blank CDs and CD recorders.

The organization was characterized by its dedicated staff and numerous interns, who affectionately became known as the "AARC Angels," efficiently managing royalties for hundreds of thousands of participants. AARC officially ceased operations in 2021, with future royalty collections now administered by SoundExchange, ensuring continuity for participants in the private copying royalties system.
