History

Morris James comes from humble beginnings over 80 years ago. In 1922, George Clark Hering, Jr., upon graduating from Dickinson Law after serving in the armed forces in WWI, opened his own business law firm. Soon after, John J. Morris joined Hering, thus opening Hering & Morris. James, who was formally a clerk and associate the firm, received his law degree and became a partner, after which the firm was renamed Hering, Morris & James. Over the years, the partners came and left, eventually molding into the great firm of Morris James. While many other lawyers and firms have been absorbed into national and international law firms, Morris James continues to persevere, sticking to its Delaware roots. We are proud to continue the practice started over 80 years ago, striving for excellence in all areas of Delaware law that we practice.
