Artesian Resources Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary Artesian Water Company, is the oldest public water utility in Delaware and has provided water throughout the state since 1905. It distributes and sells water to residential, commercial, industrial, governmental, municipal and utility customers. The company provides water service to nearly 240,000 residents, approximately 28 percent of Delaware s total population. In 2005, it distributed 7.5 billion gallons of water. Artesian Water Company serves customers through 107 operating wells. Its water supply is treated at 50 different locations. The company owns more than 1,000 miles of water main throughout the state and obtains most of its water from a system of wells that pumps groundwater from aquifers.
