Reed & Stefanow Machine and Tool Co., Inc. was established in 1972 as a partnership between Joseph R. Reed and Peter Stefanow, initially operating from a 700 square foot garage in downtown Hartford. The company quickly built a reputation for quality machining components for the aircraft industry, leading to its first expansion to Bristol in 1977.

In 1982, Joseph R. Reed acquired Peter Stefanow's share of the business, and they continued to manufacture aircraft components until 1986, when they invested in their first CNC milling machine. This marked the beginning of their expansion into other industries, while maintaining a commitment to the precision and service established by the founders over three decades ago.
