Hearthstone Castle, located in Danbury, CT, offers a glimpse into the eerie and intriguing history of Johnsonville, a once-thriving Victorian-era tourist attraction that has since become an abandoned ghost town. Founded in the early 19th century and later acquired by Raymond Schmitt, the site features vintage buildings and a rich tapestry of stories about its past, including ghostly legends and eerie experiences.

Today, Johnsonville stands as a haunting reminder of its vibrant history, with well-preserved structures like the Emory Johnson homestead and Gilead Chapel, set against the scenic backdrop of the Moodus River. Visitors to the area can explore the remnants of this unique village, where remnants of its former life still linger amidst suburban surroundings.

Beautiful castle Visited over the winter. Worn down and decrepit. Amazing pictures with an eerie feeling.

Nothing much to see at this moment. A stone castle left in ruins, now adorned with fences, graffitis and boards. Just a short walk from nearby park where you could park your car.

This place has so much potential. It's sad to see it become a ruin instead of a treasured historical site. The surrounding park is great though, lots of walkable trails.
