Giant Steps Ct-Southport

Giant Steps Connecticut, established in 1992 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders, developmental disabilities, and related neurological impairments through education, medical research, and advocacy. After 27 years of service, the organization faced the difficult decision to close its doors on June 30, 2020, due to insurmountable challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The closure marked the end of a unique and nurturing community that had developed over nearly three decades, where students, families, and staff formed deep connections akin to a family. The Board and administration prioritized the health and safety of all involved, ultimately concluding that no viable alternatives could sustain the school as it had been.
