Cavaliere's Bakery & Deli is owned and operated by the Cavaliere family. The father and son duo of Frank and Mike Cavaliere teamed up to open the business in 2005. The first Cavaliere's Bakery owned by Frank Cavaliere was located in South Windsor, CT. That business opened its' doors in 1990 and served the community for nearly a decade. The shop was a true family business, with Frank working alongside his wife, Cheryl. Their children, Mike and Heather, also worked at the bakery. After several years away from the business, Frank and his son had the desire to open another business. This time, the father-son team chose Portland, CT as the new location for another family business. Cheryl also works at the new shop, her specialty being the deli area. The Cavaliere family has roots in Italy, with Frank's grandparents hailing from the Abruzzi region. Meanwhile, Cheryl's family history traces back to Sicily, where her father's parents lived before moving to America. Frank has been in the baking business for nearly 20 years now. His start came at his brother's shop in Marlborough, CT. It was there that Frank decided he had a love for baking and has turned that passion into a thriving business. Cheryl's side of the family also has experience in the bakery business, as two of her uncles were bakers. One of them owned the Moon Bakery in Hartford. Their son, Mike, is continuing the family tradition of baking. He started off helping at the first bakery as a teenager and now has found a career with the opening of the current business.
