The Cleveland Museum of Art has embraced contemporary discussions surrounding race by presenting the exhibition "Currents and Constellations: Black Art in Focus," which showcases significant works by Black artists responding to America's racial divide. This exhibition underscores the museum's commitment to exploring themes of race, identity, and cultural erasure, featuring works from a diverse range of artists, including Elizabeth Catlett, Darius Steward, and Titus Kaphar.
With an increasing collection of over 700 pieces by Black artists, the museum aims to provide new perspectives on its exhibits, highlighting artistic movements from Social Realism to Abstract Expressionism. By juxtaposing historical works with contemporary pieces, the museum fosters a relevant dialogue about the complexities of America's past and present.
