The White River National Forest offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors. With more than 10 peaks over 14,000 feet, the forest has an area of nearly 750,000 acres. Its activities include wilderness camping, cross-country skiing, winter snowmobiling, and lake and stream fishing. The White River National Forest administers the Plant-A-Tree program, which encourages individuals, groups and businesses to plant trees in the forests to memorialize loved ones, commemorate births, weddings, anniversaries and other special events. It also conducts research in the areas of forests, wildlife, terrestrial and woodlands ecosystems, human dimensions, and inventory, analysis, water and aquatics science. The White River National Forest is located in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
