Western Colorado Conservation Corps
The Western Colorado Conservation Corps (WCCC) offers a unique opportunity for youth to serve and learn through a program run by Mesa County Partners, a nonprofit organization in Grand Junction, Colorado. Accredited by the Colorado Youth Corps Association and The Corps Network, WCCC collaborates with AmeriCorps to provide education awards for its members. Working closely with land managers in western Colorado, the corps undertakes projects like trail building, fuel mitigation, fence construction, invasive species removal, and habitat restoration.
WCCC corps members serve in teams led by a Crew Leader and Assistant Crew Leaders, partnering with land management agencies in Mesa, Delta, Montrose, and Gunnison Counties. In addition to land improvement projects, the corps aims to help young people develop by offering mentoring and restitution programs. Mesa County Partners focuses on fostering a positive self-image, a sense of belonging, and a responsibility for actions in young people, aiming to help them become independent and productive members of society.
