Roper Music has been serving the Western Slope for over 66 years. The story of the store starts back in 1947 when Gilbert Roper and his brother Judge started Roper Brothers Music and Electronics in Montrose, Colorado. A decade after opening their store in Montrose, Gil Roper decided to open a store in Grand Junction. Mr. Roper bought the Clark and Steen Music Store in March of 1956, and this location would become home to Roper Music. After buying the store, Mr. Roper hired Joe Grantham as a sales representative, who developed an excellent rapport with the local band directors. In 1984, John Handley joined Roper Music as a repairman. When Joe's health began to deteriorate, John began filling the position of sales representative, and in 1993 he took over the store, following Mr. Roper's retirement. Today, the store continues to support music education on the Western Slope with high quality instruments, a wide selection of sheet music, and a full-time band, and orchestra repair shop. The success of Roper Music can be explained by the innovative business practices of Gilbert Roper. He combined honesty, consistency and quality service to ensure his customers' satisfaction. It is Roper Music's mission to support music education at all levels while giving each and every customer the best service. This goal has been and will always remain at the heart of Roper Music.

We love Roper Music. We have taken several instruments to them for repair and they have always done a great job and their prices are affordable. They also do a lot to support the local schools.

Bad customer service! They gave me the wrong pay off on our rental and then charged a late fee a month later. They wouldn't waive it and stated that they know they have bad customer service....

Basically, this place would not be in business if there were any other viable competition within a reasonable distance. That's the short and sweet of it. The long: If you want an oboe, a bass...
