Platte River Power Authority

Platte River Power Authority provides wholesale electric power to four municipal electric systems in northern Colorado. Operating under an organic contract with the municipalities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland, Colo., Platte River acts as a wholesale electric utility that acquires, constructs and operates generating capacity and supplies electric energy. It also provides electricity and support services to other utilities and businesses in the western United States. The company s headquarters is located in Fort Collins, and it has facilities located primarily along the western slope of northern Colorado, in addition to Medicine Bow, Wyo. Platte River was established by the Colorado State Legislature in 1973, as a separate entity from the government.
