History

I was a newspaper photojournalist for 17 years, including 6 years as picture editor for the Rocky Mountain News. I've done family photography for as long as I've been a working photojournalist. In the past 10 years, I've enjoyed making family photography bigger part of the overall mix of work I take on. Recently, after years of teaching for photo schools in New York, Denver and Boulder, I've begun sharing my personal thoughts about, and approach to, photography thru hands-on workshop to photographers at all levels - beginner, serious enthusiasts and professionals. I read recently that, over time, not only do we forget most of what's happened in our lives, but the things we do remember, we often recall inaccurately. That information should reinforce for everyone just how important photography is in our lives. For me, it adds an even higher sense of purpose to the work I've loved and committed myself for nearly three decades, now.

Specialties

It is a scientific fact that no matter how much impact a moment, person or event has on us, sooner or later, every memory grows less vivid. Memories morph and change over time, and some fade away completely. THAT is why photography is, and will always be, important to us. Photography has a permanence that withstands the eroding forces of time.
