Dr. Kirk Kindsfater is an internationally recognized, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who sees patients in our Fort Collins, CO, office.His practice is well known for the outstanding results that patients have with hip and knee replacement surgery. Patients come to see Dr. Kindsfater not only from Fort Collins and around the region, but from throughout the United States and the world, ranging from New York to California to Alaska within the U.S, and international patients from as far away as Venezuela and Nepal.A native of Eaton, CO, Dr. Kindsfater joined the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies in 1995 after completing his fellowship (advanced) training in joint replacement surgery at Harvard School of Medicine and Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston, MA.Fellowship provides physicians with an additional, sixth year of focused orthopaedic surgery in their specialty area, following completion of their residency.During his practice at OCR, Dr. Kindsfater has performed more than 15,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries for patients.His excellent clinical results and the professionalism of his orthopaedic team has allowed his practice to become the busiest in Colorado and one of the busiest in the nation; he currently takes care of more than 1,300 joint replacement patients a year.Each year, Dr. Kindsfater currently performs approximately: 900 knee replacement surgeries, and 450 hip replacement operations for patients.Dr. Kindsfater is also actively involved in medical research in new technologies and implant design which can lead to improvements in the field of joint replacement surgery.In addition, he consults with major orthopaedic companies for both product development, and to educate other orthopaedic surgeons in new technologies and surgical techniques. Over the past 15 years Dr. Kindsfater has been an invited faculty member at didactic orthopaedic courses on more than 60 occasions. He also routinely hosts other orthopaedic surgeons into his operating room so that they can see the latest in surgical techniques and operating room efficiencies.He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; he holds board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.Dr. Kindsfater performs surgery for patients at OCRs surgery center and at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.Outside of medicine, Dr. Kindsfater enjoys spending time with his family, lifting weights, or racing one of his vehicles at the track.

Dr. Bret Peterson is a native of Fort Collins who returned to the community in 2013 as a hand surgeon with the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies.He specializes in surgery for injuries and conditions that affect the hand, fingers, wrist, arm, and elbow. Dr. Peterson, who is board certified, has patient appointments in our Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley, CO, offices.He has experience with many kinds of hand and arm injuries, including those that are work-related. Many individuals who see Dr. Peterson for an appointment have sustained and injury at their workplace and are covered by workers compensation insurance.Dr. Peterson enjoys helping people of all ages regain their health and ability to engage in their favorite sports or recreational pursuits, or return to work.He was born and raised in Fort Collins, graduating from Rocky Mountain High School in 1998.He went on to obtain both his undergraduate degree as well as his M.D. from the University of Colorado. He served as class president during his four years in medical school.Dr. Peterson completed his five-year orthopaedic residency at Duke University, Durham, NC (2007-2012), where his achievements were recognized with a number of awards.Dr. Peterson went on to complete advanced training as a hand and upper extremity surgeon through a fellowship program at the University of Washington in Seattle (2012-2013).Fellowship programs provide a sixth year of highly specialized training for an orthopaedic surgeon following the completion of their residency program. The additional training gives a surgeon the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge and skills in their area of interest hand, finger, wrist, arm, and elbow conditions, in Dr. Petersons case.In hand and upper extremity surgery, Dr. Peterson joins Drs. Mark Durbin, Satoru Chamberlain, and Steven Seiler at OCR.He takes care of patients from OCRs service area of northern Colorado, Wyoming, and western Nebraska. He performs surgery at hospitals and surgery centers in Fort Collins and Loveland.Outside of medicine, Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with his wife Coco and their children, His other interests include strength, athletics and fitness; music; and reading, arts, and humanities.

Dr. Mike Houghton is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in taking care of patients foot and ankle injuries and conditions.He has patient appointments in our Fort Collins and Loveland, CO, offices.Dr. Houghtons practice emphasizes the treatment of complicated foot and ankle injuries and conditions. He is a specialist in ankle replacement surgery, for instance, along with other surgeries to repair or reconstruct parts of the foot and ankle due to injury.Dr. Houghton joined the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies in 1997 after completing a fellowship (advanced training) in foot and ankle surgery at the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.Fellowship training provides orthopaedic surgeons with an additional, sixth year of focused training and patient care in their specialty area, following their five-year residency.Dr. Houghton completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison.Dr. Houghton is currently participating in a national research study on ankle replacement surgery. This clinical trial is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and managed by the Veterans Administration medical system.The research trial includes several other surgeons and hospitals/clinics, including Harborview and the University of Washington in Seattle, as well as Dr. Houghton and OCR. The study will compare patients results with ankle replacement and ankle fusion surgeries.
