History

Carolyn Hearne opened, what was then known as Berthoud Mercantile in the town of Berthoud, CO in 1974. The original store focused mainly on handmade jewelry with a small selection of clothing. When Carolyn bought her first pair of Birkenstocks in 1976 her knee pain disappeared, and she realized that everyone should have a pair, so she started selling them! Carolyn moved to Greeley in 1986 and opened Hearne's Fine Goods out of the front room of her 100 year old Victorian house. She filled the small room with a wonderful selection of comfort clothing and added more and more great shoes that people could walk, travel and work in. In 2000 Carolyn's daughter Maia joined in the business opening a Hearne's in Old Town Fort Collins. Carolyn and Maia work together to handpick unique merchandise that combines comfort, quality and classic style.
