Danny Dietz, a Colorado born native, was part of an elite, four-man Special Reconnaissance Navy SEALs team in 2005. Dietz's Special Reconnaissance unit was tasked with locating a high-level Anti-Coalition Militia leader followed by a mission to disrupt enemy fire. On June 28, 2005, Anti-Coalition sympathizers revealed their position to the four-man Navy SEALs team resulting in a fierce gun-battle. During battle, Dietz was wounded by enemy fire, however bravely kept fighting and defending his team and himself until he was mortally wounded. His heroism, selfishness, and utmost devotion to his team will never be forgotten. On September 13, 2006, Danny Dietz and one other teammate were posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. The 2013 film, Lone Survivor, is based on the Special Reconnaissance unit and their mission to locate the Taliban leader and disrupt enemy fire.
