A private, four-year liberal arts and sciences college enrolling 1,900 students, Colorado College is located on a 90-acre campus in downtown Colorado Springs near the base of the 14,110-foot Pikes Peak and about an hour from Denver. Consistently ranked in the top tier of national colleges and universities by U.S. News & World Report, CC is the only college of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region. Students come from every state in the nation and more than 24 countries, and from many ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. CC adopted the Block Plan in 1970. The plan divides the academic year into eight three-and-a-half week segments, or blocks. Students take one principal course at a time and professors teach one. Colorado College was established as a coeducational institution in 1874, two years before Colorado became a state.
