Larimer County Health Department in Fort Collins, Colo., provides services to positively affect the health of Larimer County residents. A department of the Larimer County government, the health services division promotes the health and well-being of county residents through a variety of health care services, including clinics, home visits, health screenings and educational programs. The environmental health division is concerned with controlling environmental conditions, both natural and man-made, to protect human health and well-being. Established in 1968 in accordance with State Statutes, the Larimer County Department of Health & Environment is operated by a five-member Board of Health. Each member of the board is appointed by the Larimer County Board of Commissioners and serve staggered five-year terms.

The Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment, also known as JCDHE, is a part of the government of Jefferson County in Colorado. It provides communicable disease control and emergency preparedness services. The department offers family planning and immunization solutions and operates WIC Clinic. The Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment provides substance abuse counseling and animal-assisted therapy programs. The department also offers HIV counseling and testing services. It provides facility health inspection solutions for day care centers and schools. The department additionally offers tobacco cessation services for youths and adults. The Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment provides educational options for the community. The department operates administrative services and health promotion and lifestyle management divisions.

In 1972, residents of Jefferson County, Colo., established one of the nation's first open space programs, named Jefferson County Open Space. The organization was founded when the people of Jefferson County voted to tax themselves 0.5 percent on sales to fund planning, acquisition and maintenance of lands and waters for the enjoyment of current and future generations. Since then, with the support of Jefferson County residents, Jefferson County Open Space has been able to preserve, protect and maintain one of Colorado's most valuable assets: its rural land. The organization develops opportunities for outdoor recreation, education and conservation. The organization maintains parks and recreation areas throughout the county and is headquartered in Golden, Colo.
