The Animas Museum is owned and operated by the La Plata County Historical Society, with the mission to keep La Plata County history and culture alive for present and future generations. Current exhibits at the Museum explore how Native Americans, education, mining, ranching, fires, the railroad, law enforcement and tourism have shaped La Plata County. There is no charge for admission however donations are gratefully accepted.

My son and I were in Durango to ride the train but the wildfire forced cancelation of our ride .We decided to enjoy our day visiting as much of the town as we could. We went to the Animas Museum...
