The World War II Memorial at the Presidio in San Francisco, California, pays tribute to American servicemen lost or buried in U.S. Pacific waters. Dedicated in 1960, the memorial features a statue of Columbia and a curved wall of California granite bearing the names of 413 fallen members of the armed forces.
Constructed by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the West Coast World War II Memorial overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is one of three A.B.M.C. memorials on U.S. soil honoring missing soldiers of World War II, symbolized by the bas-relief depicting constellations Pegasus and Pisces.
