A hard worker with a determination to pursue a career in civil engineer, Bas had to face several obstacles. He did not have enough money for college, and had to help support his struggling family. As a result, Bas Panch worked various odd jobs just to make ends meet. Work included janitorial duties, mowing lawns for the neighborhood, and washing dishes at restaurants. When enough money was saved, Bas began his studies at U.C.L.A. Unfortunately, he had to continue working three jobs while attending U.C.L.A. Balancing between school and work, Bas would average 4 hours of sleep a day to accomplish his goal of earning a civil engineering degree. Bas Panch finally graduated from U.C.L.A. in 1977.
