Torrance Police Department

The Torrance Police Department has served the community of Torrance, Calif., for more than 80 years and employs nearly 250 sworn police officers and 100 civilians. Specialized details in the patrol bureau consist of a seven-officer crime scene investigation unit, a gang detail and a K-9 detail. The investigative bureau offers a crime impact team that includes undercover work that targets major offenders, and a narcotics team that targets major international drug distribution organizations. Within the traffic and emergency services bureau is commercial enforcement, parking enforcement and the police motor squad. The department also maintains its own special weapons and tactics unit. The city of Torrance is located in southwest Los Angeles County in a region known as the South Bay. The fourth-largest municipality in Los Angeles County, it is part of the greater suburban Los Angeles area.
