The SUP Spot

History

theSUPspot was founded by Jodie Nelson, a professional surfer and Steve Adler, a surfboard (manufacturer), out of passion and love of the sport and their desire to share it and make it accessible to friends and family. Jodie first started Stand Up Paddleboarding in 2004 in Hawaii and was instantly hooked! With Jodie's excitement over finding a new sport, she came back from Hawaii determined to find a board and paddle of her own. Jodie and her friend Steve found one of her brother's kayak paddles, sawed one end off, and duck taped a tennis ball to the end as a handle. They used long boards as their first paddle boards. From that point forward they were both addicted to the new sport. Jodie most recently became the first women to make the solo crossing on a stand up paddle board from the Island of Catalina to Dana Point. She did it to inspire her close friend that is battling breast cancer and she raised over $128,000. Visit www.PaddleWithPurpose.com
