San Jose Mercury News is a subsidiary of the MediaNews Group, one of the largest newspaper companies in the United States with publications throughout California, the Rocky Mountain region and the Northeast. The company is privately owned and operates 40 daily newspapers in nine states with combined daily and Sunday circulation of approximately 1.7 million and 2.3 million, respectively. Each of MediaNews publications maintains a Web site focused on local news, sports and weather content.
