History
In 1952, the plastics industry was in its infancy. Plastics certainly weren't available at the retail level. Art Whitehead and Gilbert Taylor decided to change that. They opened Taylor and Art Plastics in downtown Oakland and were determined to make plastics available to the people. Since then, we have expanded to 20 west coast stores. The name was changed from Taylor and Art to TAP Plastics in memory of the two founders. Their vision still guides us as we make the world of plastics accessible to the do-it-yourselfer's, artists, and inventors, as well as contractors and businesses. Come in and see why Taylor and Art as well as our customers call us The Fantastic Plastic Place.
Specialties
TAP offers many types of sheet plastics that can be cut to size while you wait or fabricated to your specifications. With the help of laser cutters and engravers, a CNC router, and other specialty tools, our skilled fabricators can build everything from display cases, to literature holders, to picture frames, all to your exact specifications. If you can imagine it, we can build it. We also carry perhaps the largest west coast selection of fiberglass supplies: epoxies, polyesters, glass and graphite fabrics, and related accessories. We have an entire section devoted to mold making and casting for the artist, do-it-yourselfer, or the proto-type maker. If you need plastic containers, no one matches our selection of plastic bottles (TSA approved) and boxes in a rainbow of colors. Come in to one of our 20 stores in California, Oregon, and Washington, or visit our website. Discover The Fantastic Plastic Place!

Thank you to Edgar who helped me immensely on my tiny project - repairing a fridge drawer rather than buying a $200+ replacement drawer. It's an old school kind of biz in the best possible way.
Very unprofessional behavior on the part of the sales people at this location. I dropped off dimensions for a project and returned the following week only to be met with sarcasm and indifference....

TAP Plastics is an SF gem. They have a lot of different types of material in unfinished form (plus a few commercial/industrial 'finished' products like acrylic display cubes). The staff there is...
