More than 50 hotels, including Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental, Marriott and Wyndham locations, are owned by Sunstone Hotel Investors, a real estate investment trust that owns primarily upper-upscale and upscale hotels throughout the United States. Since its founding in 1995, the group has acquired more than $800 million worth of hotels and sold more than $400 million worth of hotels. The company was founded by Robert Alter and has headquarters in San Clemente, Calif. Nearly all of the company s hotels, which are located in 17 states and represent more than 13,000 guestrooms, are managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts, the U.S. s largest independent hotel management company. Sunstone Hotels trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "SHO".
