Sugar ’n Spice has been a Balboa Island landmark since our doors first opened to the public way back in 1945. Our shop is the one-and-only “Original”, being the very first frozen banana and Balboa Bar shop on the Island. In December 2017, Orange Coast Magazine featured us in their Icons of OC issue. 2015 marked Sugar ‘n Spice’s 70th Anniversary, and as much as times and fashions have changed over the years our customers can always count on each and every banana and Balboa Bar being made-to-order, hand-dipped for them, twice, in milk chocolate, then rolled in the favorite toppings of their choice. Drove from San Diego to try this place. The ice cream sandwich with Reese's was really good. The frozen banana was just ok! Probably wouldn't get it again but it was part of the experience. Good...

It's one of those things you have to do in OC... great desserts, nothing complicated. Service is fast but the lines can get a little slow during peak tourist season. Parking is difficult nearby....
