Stewart, Paul M MSW
History
It has always been part of my personality to want to help others. In high school I became particularly interested in psychology thanks to a timely and well taught class. Working in a psychiatric hospital in my early 20s I saw masters level therapist's treating inpatient clients and recognize this as the work I particularly wished to do. I received my MSW in 1983 and opened my private practice in Monterey, on Pearl Street in 1988. Since that time I've had the privilege to work with hundreds of clients and families.I received my MSW in 1983 and opened my private practice in Monterey, on Pearl Street in 1988. Since that time I've had the privilege to work with hundreds of clients and families. The trust that clients place and a therapist requires the utmost integrity and professionalism. An engaged well trained and insightful clinician can help cut through the confusion that sometimes surrounds the struggles we face.
Specialties
I open my private practice in Monterey, and have seen clients in the same building since in 1988. In this general outpatient psychotherapy practice I work with children adults and families, in individual, play, family, couples and group psychotherapy. I consult with parents, children and school personnel regarding educational difficulty, and work with children and adults, in response to a variety of complaints; ranging from depression, childhood abuse, and social and learning differences to substance abuse. I have continued a specialization in the treatment of child abuse, including assessments and expert witness testimony. A specialization in the treatment and mediation of divorce issues has been developed beginning 1992. I am regularly referred abuse and divorce cases directly by Superior Court Judges for both assessment and treatment. I serve as a Special Master for child custody and visitation (a quasi judicial role) in a number of high conflict divorce cases.
