A native of Irvine and fluent in English and Mandarin, Dr. Yu is excited to return to his hometown to give back and provide high quality health care for his community. His inspiration to pursue medicine came from his grandmother – she saw his compassion for others and knew that he would be a great physician to those in need. Dr. Yu views his role as a family medicine physician as a coach in his patient’s journey towards good health. When working with his patients, he employs a dual approach – one with a focus on preventative medicine in which he helps his patients maintain good health and another with a focus on treatment where he guides his patients through the best options to manage their medical conditions. No matter the approach, Dr. Yu’s goal is to focus on keeping his patients happy and healthy. In his practice, Dr. Yu has the privilege of working with patients of all ages and many times, he will treat several generations of the same family. He thrives on building long-lasting relationships with his patients and their families, providing comprehensive and compassionate health care tailored to each visit. According to Dr. Yu, “The best part about my job is knowing that I can help make a difference for my patients. I’m honored that my patients select me to help them through their health care journey.” Dr. Yu received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his residency at Adventist Health Glendale and Family Medicine Center. His choice to join Hoag Medical Group was an easy one as he served as a volunteer at Hoag during high school and was impressed with the vast array of services and high level of care provided to patients. Outside of work, Dr. Yu enjoys being outdoors, whether it is hiking or gardening, as well as playing guitar and video games. Dr. Yu also serves as a leader at his local church.
