Spudnuts Donuts
Spudnuts Donuts, a legendary franchise known for its unique potato-based doughnuts, was founded in 1940 by brothers Alan and Bob Pelton in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their innovative recipe, which incorporates mashed potatoes, led to the rapid expansion of the franchise, with over 200 stores operating across more than 30 states by 1948.
Although the original Pelton Spudnut Corporation no longer exists, 37 Spudnut shops continue to thrive, each adapting the original recipe slightly due to the unavailability of the original dry Spudnut mix. The Spudnuts Museum, dedicated to preserving the history of this beloved American confection, also highlights the significance of Spudnuts in culinary culture.
