History
In 1853 in Smith Flat, over the top of the Deep Blue Channel, the Three Mile House was built. Named for its distance from central Placerville on the trail to Carson City, today it is known as the Smith Flat House. It originally consisted of a general store, post office, bedroom, dining room and dance floor. Over the next century and a half the Smith Flat House served many purposes; operating as a wagon stop during the bonanza days of the Comstock mines, as well as a hotel and restaurant, run by the Fossati family, for decades. The Smith Flat House has long been a part of the history of El Dorado County, changing with the times, always enduring and providing a wonderful gathering space for the people. Today, we strive to continue this tradition as an inviting destination for excellent food, events and activities that nourish our community and those who visit our region.
