The General Services Agency works to provide support services for various departments and public agencies of Oakland, Calif., that help them to serve the residents and business community. Its technical services include architectural, engineering, energy and hazardous materials management. The agency also offers building maintenance services, such as repair, minor remodeling and alteration. The General Services Agency is responsible for the construction of new facilities and purchasing and contract administration services. It additionally handles real property management, including buying, selling and leasing of county property to private interests. The agency operates a communication department that is comprised of electronic and telephone systems divisions. The General Services Agency was established in 1974 by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
