Sather Tower, also known as The Campanile, is a historic bell tower located on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Standing at 307 feet tall, it is the third-tallest bell-and-clock tower in the world and serves as a recognizable symbol of the university.
Designed by John Galen Howard and completed in 1915, Sather Tower houses a 61-bell carillon that can be heard for miles and supports an extensive program of education in campanology. Visitors can take an elevator to the observation deck for sweeping views of the campus, San Francisco, and the Golden Gate, while also enjoying the Campanile Concert played by the California Marching Band during Big Game week.
