Santa Monica Water Treatment

1228 S Bundy Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90025

The Santa Monica Water Treatment Plant is dedicated to restoring groundwater resources from the contaminated Charnock groundwater subbasin, utilizing a comprehensive treatment system that includes granular activated carbon filtration. This facility has undergone significant upgrades to enhance drinking water disinfection, softening, and fluoridation processes, enabling the production of potable water once again since December 4, 2010.

Following a long period of contamination caused by Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE), the City of Santa Monica partnered with major oil companies to rehabilitate the Charnock Well Field, which had been out of service for over 14 years. The modernized treatment plant now employs advanced technologies, including a three-stage reverse osmosis filtration system, to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water to the community.
