Sands Beach in Goleta, CA is a popular surf spot known for its consistency and proximity to the student area of Isla Vista. Despite the hazards of boulders, thick kelp, and occasional methane gas odor, Sands Beach offers good waves during the winter and spring, especially in front of the Devereux Slough. With a mix of beginner and experienced surfers, this beach break is accessible to all levels of surfers.
Surrounded by the vibrant party town of Isla Vista, early morning surf sessions at Sands Beach provide an opportunity for empty waves while others nurse their hangovers. Two miles offshore, the legendary oil rig Platform Holly has inspired songs by Jim Morrison and Jack Johnson. With its location at the corner of Camino Majorca and Del Playa, Sands Beach Park is easily accessible for surfers of all levels.

There is a lot of seaweed flies everywhere in certain areas but it is truest a beautiful view of the ocean. There are many surfers riding waves out here so no loneliness.
