San Francisco Police Department

The San Francisco Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that enforces ordinances, safeguards citizens rights, and preserves peace, order and safety. It has a community police academy that is designed to inform and teach interested citizens the various aspects of municipal policing. The San Francisco Police Department operates several crime laboratories that offer various services, including processing of crime scenes for physical evidence, searching for and comparison of fingerprints, crime scene photography, and tracing and recovering metal and gun shot residue. The police department maintains a communication center that answers emergency and nonemergency telephone calls and dispatches law enforcement, ambulance, fire, emergency management, and wild life and park service officers. The San Francisco Police Department has been operational for more than 150 years and maintains a station in San Francisco.
