Since 1971, the SF Tenants Union has been fighting for the rights of tenants and for the preservation of affordable housing in San Francisco. From the struggle for rent control in the 1970s to 1998's Proposition G (to end the abuses of OMI evictions), the Tenants Union has been the city's leading advocate for tenants. The SFTU is 100% membership supported and this enables our advocacy to be uncompromising and immune to pressures from government or other funders.
Our counselors are trained and experienced on virtually any aspect of landlord-tenant law. Some of the more common problems we help with are: Rent Increases Eviction Attempts Repairs and Maintenance Landlord Harassment Invasion of Privacy Security Deposits Questions about your lease, roommates, subletting, pets, parking spaces, etc. Rent Board Petitions Tenancies-in-Common,Owner-Move-Ins, condo conversions Questions about moving in, bad credit, etc. Help in organizing tenants in your building The Tenants Rights Handbook has chapters and sections on all the above, and more, as well. With your membership you can get help for your specific problem and learn about all your rights, plus you are able to ask questions at any time from a trained counselor.

Do not waste your time with this (dis)organization. Just make an appointment for a half-hour with the San Francisco Bar Association for $35. In this way you won't have to deal with contemptuous...
