Founded in 1976, the Office of the State Public Defender is a part of the State of California. The office provides legal services to people who do not have financial means to employ private counsels. It focuses on post-conviction appellate proceedings in death penalty cases. The office manages law offices San Francisco, as well as Sacramento in California. The Office of the State Public Defender represents more than 100 men and women. The office is responsible for developments in the areas of capital litigation, due process, jury selection, right to counsel, and search and seizure. The Office of the State Public Defender manages an outreach directory.
