History

Redwoods and Rivers was started in 1994 when the Charlton family; Ray, Bobbie, Michael, and Wanda, after working many years for other river companies decided to start our own River Company. Redwoods and Rivers was born out of a desire to run quality river trips the way we feel they should be done. We believe that a quality river trip has these important themes: safety (always comes first), fun, educational, and spiritually rewarding. As a family owned and operated business one of our unique talents is to be able to welcome our clients and guide school students into our world for a personalized experience. Through the years this has proven to be especially rewarding for us. Not only do our clients come back year after year but our extended family keeps growing bigger and more diverse. We often do community services trips for free or at cost, and have an active scholarship program available for individuals and groups.

Staying true to these themes Redwoods and Rivers has over the years evolved into one of the leading rafting companies in Northern California. Redwoods and Rivers is well known for our many special trips, schools, and retreats, and especially for the consistently high quality of our river guides. Our homestead and base camp on the Trinity River is a demonstration sustainable living resort that includes a private river beach, plush tent cabins, an awesome tree house, large organic garden as well as many projects that demonstrate sustainable living.
