History
The museum was established in October 2003, and incorporated as a non-profit in 2005. In 2007 the City of Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department partnered with the museum to offer rides on portable track, and then in 2010 a permanent track was installed. Generous donations from organizations such as the Donner Foundation, Bermar Science and Technology, and Kaiser's Giving Campaign helped fund the acquisition of track and equipment. The museum is staffed with 100% volunteer rail enthusiasts. The Golden Spike Ceremony marking completion of the initial track installation occurred 5/5/2019.
