The Redwood City Fire Department, also known as RCFD, focuses on fire prevention, operations, communication, paramedic and emergency services. Founded in 1861, it protects life and property from fire and hazardous material disasters. The department also offers emergency mitigation, public education and code enforcement services. The Redwood City Fire Department has more than four fire stations, engines and fire alarms, as well as a truck. It has a staff of over 70 individuals and provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, the department s Fire Prevention Bureau specializes in fire inspection and investigation services. The Redwood City Fire Department offers the Junior Fire Academy program for youths between the ages of 11 and 15. It also provides disaster preparedness training programs. The Redwood City Fire Department is governed by the City of Redwood City in California, which operates finance, police, public works and human resources departments.
