Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station was a nuclear power plant located in Herald, California, operated by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. It was commissioned in 1975 and decommissioned in 1989 due to public vote and the replacement of its production by Diablo Canyon.
The decommissioning activities, which cost $500 million, were completed in 2009, leaving the cooling towers still standing on the site. Rancho Seco had a Babcock and Wilcox pressurized water reactor with a nominal power of 873 MW.
