Project Taco
King Taco, established in 1974, originated from a converted ice cream truck by Don Raúl and Doña Lupe. Their taco truck quickly gained popularity when stationed next to an East LA bar. Now with 22 locations, King Taco offers a diverse selection of authentic Mexican cuisine, earning recognition from respected food critics and remaining one of the original Los Angeles food spots.
Ricardo Barragan's painting pays homage to King Taco's early days, showcasing the original marquee sign and the 3rd street location. In the 80s, this spot operated on a walk-up basis, where customers placed orders at the windows and savored their tacos on car hoods. The nostalgic ambiance captures the essence of King Taco's humble beginnings.
