Polly's Bakery Cafe started in 1965 with the opening of the first freestanding KFC restaurant in Southern California in the city of Belmont Shore. Within the next four years, the company opened a total of eight KFC restaurants. In 1968, the first Polly's Pie Palace was opened in Fullerton, Calif., serving fresh pies and coffee. Polly s also became a commissary for its KFC restaurants by providing dinner rolls and tangy coleslaw. Polly's Pie Palace, later named Polly's Bakery Cafe, was building a loyal clientele because of its pies, hamburgers, sandwiches as well as in-house baking of every loaf of bread, muffin, cinnamon roll and pie. The company s Whittier, Calif., location is one of several Polly's Bakery Cafes restaurants throughout California.
