The Santa Maria Police Department is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights, as well as maintains peace and order. It conducts and supports a variety of crime prevention educational programs and awareness seminars regarding burglary prevention, vacation checks, ATM security, and lottery and Internet scams. Located in Santa Maria, Calif., the Santa Maria Police Department operates a communication center that provides services for police, fire and emergency medical assistance. The police department also maintains a citizens' police academy that organizes a variety of community, youth and neighborhood watch programs. The Santa Maria Police Department has a crime laboratory that offers various services, including processing of crime scenes for physical evidence, searching for and comparison of fingerprints, crime scene photography, and tracing and recovering metal and gun shot residue.
