Points of Light is a mentorship program based in Oakland, CA, that aims to build hope and create supportive relationships for inner-city children. Through their Christ-centered approach, community members and collegiate students are paired with children in grades 4 to 7, fostering trust, guidance, and love. Mentors undergo a thorough application process, including background checks and interviews, and commit to meeting with their mentees twice a month for 90-minute sessions from September to April. Additionally, mentors participate in training sessions, document their hours, and engage in peer support and sharing sessions.
With a focus on sharing the love of Jesus and spending quality one-on-one time with children, Points of Light recruits mentors who are 18 years or older and are willing to commit to at least one year of service, including summer Zoom calls. By providing mentorship and community support, Points of Light aims to create multi-year relationships that bring hope and guidance to the lives of inner-city children in Oakland.
