Sierra Azul Preserve, managed by Midpen, encompasses over 19,000 acres of wilderness in the Santa Cruz Mountains, featuring diverse landscapes such as grasslands, oak woodlands, and rocky chaparral. The preserve boasts 26 miles of multiuse trails suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, providing visitors with breathtaking views and a chance to encounter local wildlife including mountain lions, deer, and bobcats.

Notably home to the summit of Mount Umunhum, the preserve holds rich historical significance, with its land inhabited for millennia by Native Americans and later developed by German and Austrian refugees in the 19th century. Today, the area reflects its storied past while offering opportunities for outdoor recreation and education amidst its unspoiled natural beauty.
