This Little Piggy Went To Market
HistoryThis Little Piggy Went to Market was created by a couple who originated from Toronto and who regularly attended the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto to shop for fresh meat, cheeses, and vegetables; and to have a Peameal Bacon Sandwich. Since locating to San Diego, they were unable to find Peameal Bacon anywhere, so they decided to create their own business selling Traditional Canadian Peameal Bacon Sandwiches at the La Jolla Farmer's Market. As customer enthusiasm for their Peameal Bacon sandwiches grew, they decided that it was time to migrate from the market and develop a more robust offering. They are now focused on making Traditional Canadian Peameal Bacon available throughout the USA. They are now pursuing an e-commerce strategy, that allows customers to order online and receive Peameal Bacon delivered to their door. They also have plans to sell on Amazon and to deliver to grocery stores, butcher shops, and restaurants. Target date for launch is January 2017SpecialtiesThe origins of Peameal Bacon go back to the mid 1800's when the market for pork in the United Kingdom was lucrative, but shipping fresh pork from Canada carried the risk of the pork spoiling. By adding a salt cure and coating it in a ground meal made from yellow peas, it arrived preserved and safe for consumption. Post World War II, it has been rolled in ground yellow cornmeal. Our Peameal Bacon recipe is based on a timeless original recipe. It starts with fresh Canadian pork loins, never from frozen. Our supplier, has a very specific criteria for the selected fresh pork used to make Peameal Bacon. They produce a mild flavored Peameal Bacon with an age old traditional taste and texture that is sought after, and generates a following of repeat customers. Our Peameal Bacon is USDA, FDA approved, certified Gluten Free and features the lowest sodium, the highest protein, and the lowest fat and cholesterol levels of any Peameal Bacon made in Canada.
