History
In December 1967, four pioneers led in the organization of Peninsula Sinai Congregation, holding its first worship services in a San Mateo Church. The Congregation grew, until ultimately securing its own house of worship and learning in Foster City in 1979. We were led by our first Conservative ordained Rabbi, Marvin Goodman, from 1988 to 2007. We have a fully accredited Hebrew and Sunday School, and we are affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Our physical facility was completed in three phases. The education wing, containing four classrooms, a kitchen, and the Col. David J. Reina memorial library, was dedicated in 1979. The second phase, consisting of the sanctuary/social hall and administrative offices, was completed in 1984. In May 2000 a substantial remodel was completed, which included a dedicated sanctuary, additional classrooms, a lounge, expanded offices, library and a full catering kitchen.
Specialties
Shalom and welcome to Peninsula Sinai Congregation, an active, participatory, and diverse community in which people feel a sense of connection and friendship with one another. Our members come from all backgrounds, to form an embracing, warm, egalitarian, and Jewishly committed community. Through Torah (learning), Avodah (prayer), and Gemilut Hasadim (Acts of Kindness), PSC helps people in their spiritual quests for God, meaning, and fellowship. PSC offers Shabbat and weekday services, a beautiful blend of traditional Judaism that is both relevant and accessible. We are proud of our religious school, adult education, pre-K, youth, and teen programs, celebrations of Jewish holidays, cultural programs, Tikkun Olam (community service) and life cycle events. Interfaith families always have a place at PSC. We hope you'll join us!
