Origen, pronounced oh-ree-hen, was inspired by Chef & Owner Rosa Martinez’s upbringing in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her childhood experiences of cooking and selling tamales with her mother in the town square ignited a passion for sharing authentic Oaxacan cuisine. This led Rosa on a mission spanning nearly three decades to introduce the Bay Area to the rich flavors of Oaxaca through her moles, tamales, and enchiladas.
Founded in 2016, Origen aims to bring Oaxacan culture to the Bay Area by crafting dishes with locally-sourced ingredients. Rosa's dedication to tradition, family, and quality infuses her cooking with a special sazón, ensuring each bite is a taste of her heritage. The restaurant offers a culinary journey that honors recipes passed down through generations, inviting diners to experience the heart of Oaxacan cuisine.
At Origen, the vision is to create a welcoming space where individuals from all walks of life can savor the authentic flavors and traditions of Oaxaca. By offering hand-crafted dishes like halibut ceviche, Oaxacan tamales, and a variety of moles, Origen opens a window to a vibrant culinary heritage. Through events, catering, and a future restaurant, Origen strives to redefine Mexican cuisine in the Bay Area, inviting guests to share in the warmth and authenticity of Oaxacan food.
